Common Courtesy and Sense

This website was generated after the realization that as a society, we have lost our way. The folks we see on TV, Twitter, the News and in DC do NOT represent us- republican or democrat. As a responsible citizen I felt compelled to do something to move us away from the vitriolic hatred that is tearing us apart and ruining the Country we love. I hope that all people can find or share something valuable here and we can move forward together in a NEW direction-either in the Republican Party, a new party of “Regular Republicans,” or, as just normal, every day, decent people.

Civility

Over the years, I have observed as our public discourse has become more and more vitriolic, hyperbolic, and fervent. It is bad for everyone in involved. It is unhealthy, and it is a poor example for our children. It is easy to be hateful and hurtful. To pick-on people, put them down, call them names, belittle and denigrate them. But that is not helpful or productive. In fact, it is harmful and destructive. Let’s endeavor to avoid that pitfall and be civil to one another- even if, and especially when, we disagree.

Decency

This is related to civility…let us aim to avoid any appearance of what some might interpret as “indecent.” The use of curse words, slurs, epithets, etc. Certainly bathroom humor or overt sexual innuendo should not enter into the public political discourse if it can be avoided.

Thoughtfulness

When we disagree on matters, and we will, let us try to be thoughtful and carefully consider the other point of view. We ought to try to take a minute and wonder- what if I’ve got it wrong? Or is there something I can learn from, or take from the opposing viewpoint? Is a change of mind or a change of heart warranted, reasonable, or acceptable? Perhaps not, but it seems wise to be thoughtful.

Ethics

Whether you are Atheist, Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Hindu, or subscribe to any other belief system, Religion, or none at all, surely we can all agree on some of the most fundamental tenets of Ethics. For example- the Golden Rule, and the “big ones” of the Ten Commandments- don’t lie, steal, cheat, or murder. We might add, no self-dealing- one shouldn’t enrich themselves, their family, and political donors/business associates at the public trough. It is offensive to ALL our sensibilities. Sadly lately, politics has become so partisan, we find ourselves saying- well it’s OK for my guy because the other guy did it too. This is a zero sum game and will spiral out of control until we are completely destroyed. It was not OK then, and it is not OK now. Let’s take a stand against the corruption of our government.

Justice For All

While I am keenly aware that there is no justice in THIS world, that does not mean that we can’t endeavor to create a Just society. Ever since the OJ Simpson trial, and probably since the beginning of time, it has been “known” that the the rich and powerful don’t face the same consequences as the rest of us. In recent years, this has gotten exponentially worse. We must not shrug and say it is just the way it is anymore. The arms of government must not and cannot be “weaponized” and used for Party Politics. The Justice Department should not exist to investigate and punish the President’s political opponents. This is a dangerous and slippery slope we are on. We must come back from the precipice, or we may ultimately face an endless cycle of sham convictions followed four years later by a deluge of Pardons.
